Unwilling Honker

So Jan 1st was NO HONKING DAY in Delhi and I have a feeling i was the only one who followed it...because every where I heard the cacaphony of horns. Well anyways I am one of those who don't believe in honking unless its really really necessary or required. In fact I am one of those who wait for people to cross the road and then move and I don't even honk at people while they are doing so. This I learnt in Singapore when in my one week of stay I never heard any one honking. I was so surprised that I asked a local over there if honking is banned there. He replied that they just consider it rude to honk and believe in being patient , thats it. This really impressed me.

It really irks me when people start incessant honking the moment the signal turn green. Sometimes it exasperates me so much that i give a bad stare in the rear view or make a sign with my hands which can be read as I can't fly. Despite being so much against pressing that horn I realised that i can't survive in this city without peep peep. No matter how much I avoid doing it I inevitably end up meeting people who jump red lights and zoom their vehicles in full speed or people who over take from left or cyclists who think its fun to swing themselves all the way. Its true I do honk, but I am an unwilling honker. Alas the dilemma continues...to honk or not to honk!!

Moral Policing

Moral Policing is I guess is the favourite time pass of most of the Indians but some political outfits have rather taken it too seriously. Come Valentine's Day and we will hear a stray incident of vandalism here and there.
The recent case of beating up and molesting of girls in a Mangalore pub by Shiv Ram Sena activists is very disturbing. But what is even more disturbing is the fact that hardly anything is being done against these hooligans, rather we are having a debate on ' Women drinking is against Indian Culture'. Why are people not paying attention to the real issue. How can anyone decide what is in our culture and what is not. Running of a pub is legal and so is entry of men and women in it and drinking after a certain age ( which may vary from state to state). So its not that the young men and women there were flouting any rules. Rather those hooligans are law breakers who attacked those girls. But it is very sad that everyone from the Chief Minister of Karnataka to Health Minister Ramdoss is talking against the culture of drinking( especially women) rather than doing something against such people. Why Talibanise our country ? I guess its just easy to blame women and make them as scape goats. Something similar happened in the Noida Rape Case as well. Tue the men involved were arrested but not without raising eye brows that what was the woman doing in the car with her boy friend and that she was the one who was in compromising position. The sarpanch even went on to the heights of saying its just a rape so what is the big deal about it. The outrage should have been against the offenders not against the victim. Two tales. Same sad story

My best friend's bachelorette party (new)

Here I am writing about another friend's bachelorette party. I had to put new in the title to avoid any confusion lest people think that it is the same post.

Well much to my parents distress, another friend of mine is getting married on 20th feb. Since this time this is a real wedding which I have to attend so we are having a real bachelorette party on 31st. Since the fake one was an amazing fun there is a lot of pressure on every one to make the real one better.

For the bride to be we all are getting minimum one picture each of us with he or of the group to make her a collarge. Also random time slots have been alloted to everyone and we have to think what she would be doing at that point of time after her wedding and accordingly get her a present. Booze would flow, music will blow (lol) and I am sure every one has put their dancing shoes on. One of the male friends has promised us 'some monty' not 'full monty'. He has been on diet and has been jogging vigourously to be in perfect shape for the act. Talk about dedication!!! ( Though most of us are yet to decide about our clothes)

I can't contain my excitement for saturday. The bride to be has no idea about our plans and good that she has no idea about my blog. On our part we are acting uninterested in the party to piss her off. I hope 31st night turns out to be one of the most memorable night of her life.

Will surely get back on the details of our fun after 31st.

jai ho

The title of the post may be misleading. This post is not about Slumdog millionaire. And by the way will it be a blasphemy to say that i didn't love the movie as much as it is hyped. It is definitely a good movie but i could't see why everyone is going gaga over it. Anyways thne post is not about slumdog millionaire

One of the good things about working in a school is the morning prayer. Even though I am not a deeply religious person yet the collective sound of students chanting the gayatri mantra and shaanti path gives my heart with some tranquility. and the best part of morning assembly is that we get to sing National Anthem everyday. Singing it every morning fills my heart with pride of belonging to this wonderful nation India.

to watch you leaving

To Watch You Leaving . . .

is to know such pain, it's jagged edges tearing into my soul. As a stake from the garden tears into the warm, dark earth.

To Watch You Leaving . . .

knowing all the while that never again will I fit myself, warm with sleep, against your solid back.

Nor hear your steady breathing. Or feel the beating of your heart.

To Watch You Leaving . . .

aware in every moment of every day that my dreams, my future; once tied with silken ribbons to yours, will never come to be.

And the mornings once so silent and hopeful, us gazing at the mountains and so gently awaiting forever - are now but small pieces of my past.

To Watch You Leaving . . .

your heart a tight fist of anger and your dry eyes betraying nothing of you. I cry for both of us, my love, because you will not.

To Watch You Leaving . . .

is to know that I've lost my place on this earth. My station. My heart's home. That I will wander, forever a nomad. Alone and afraid. And in my troubled dreams watch you leave, again and again.

For the balance of my days.

My friend's bachelor party ...PART 2

so finally the d-day came....my friend's bachelor party cum bridal shower happened , it had the perfect script except that the bride was missing :)

Well started off the day with stupid traffic jams but managed to reach cinema hall on time...we all watched jaane tu ya jaane na...very cute and likeable picture, i think its the kinda movie one should watch with friends...after that had an elaborate meal ( vegetarian....sob sob for my non-vegetarian friends). When we got out of the mall it was raining. It all looked so wonderful and perfect...it was raining but not too heavily....just the kind of rain which makes walking enjoyable, sky was pitch dark and it was illuminated by the lights on the road leading to the car parking( which we had found almost a kilometer away thanks to the saturday rush). By the time we got out the roads were all empty and we enjoyed our stroll while getting drenched.

There after we headed towards a friend's place. She had cooked some delicious snacks n rice pudding. There we sat down for drinking ( green apple vodka- it so smooth....one doesn't even get to know when it hits you). Then we started dancing and kept dancing till wee hours....the flavour of the evening was retro music.... We had a half - monty if not full monty...lol one of the male friends has got a tatoo on his chest....still something is better than nothing.and thereafter went out in rain again on the terrace.....slept only at 5....It was such a fun night that I keep going back to it in my mind all the time. I told about it to my friend in whose honour this party was in the first place. She got so excited that now she wants us to throw a party like this when she is here the next time.

But the very next day got a call from a friend. She has got engaged...oh my god!!! now have to plan a real bachelor party but before that a pack of lies to hide the fact that another friend of mine is getting married.

poem

Whatever befalls me
I will not be able to tell anyone.
The pains I have suffered
The burden of sins I carry in my heart
I don't have the courage to speak of them.
In the books others have written,
I look for my own story
Whenever I find the story of my life,
I erase all such lines
Remove them with ink
I think if people read these lines,
Stopping me on the way,
I don't know what all they might ask
